Orateurs - Laura Tyson SPEAKER ORATEUR: DR. LAURA TYSON

An economist interested in "real world" economic problems, Dr. Tyson has earned her reputation as an authority on U.S. economic competitiveness, global markets, and the high-tech industry.

She applied her expertise as National Economic Adviser and President of the Council of Economic Advisors for President Clinton, and helped to shape the strongest American economy in the history of our country.

As the nation's top economic adviser, Dr. Tyson managed all economic policy-making throughout the executive branch and crafted our domestic and international economic strategy with, in the President's words, "unfailingly frank, direct and principled advice."

Dr. Tyson became London Business School's first female Dean in January 2002-the first woman to head a top-10 international business school. Previously, Dr. Tyson was Dean of the Haas School of Business at the University of California at Berkeley, where she served as the only woman to head a major U.S. business school, and prior to that, she was Professor of Economics and Business Administration at the University of California.

With her predominance as America's leading economic strategist, it is no wonder that the London Times magazine named her one of the 25 most influential women in the world.

Before joining the Clinton Administration, Dr. Tyson published a number of books and articles on industrial competitiveness and trade, including the highly acclaimed book Who's Bashing Whom?

Trade Conflict in High Technology Industries. She also has published several books and articles on the economies of Central Europe and their transition to market systems.

She is an Economic Viewpoint columnist for BusinessWeek magazine and a commentator for Nightly Business Report. She writes regularly about domestic and international economic policy matters in The Washington Post, The New York Times, and other nationally and internationally syndicated newspapers and magazines.

In her speeches, Dr. Tyson clearly outlines our domestic and global economies as we move into a new century and begin a new Presidency.

Dr. Tyson examines the economics of emerging high-tech industries, and discusses with authority the impact technology has had on our global economy.
